LISA HAYES
I am a felt-maker, creating unique wearable and functional pieces from my studio located on Dangar Island in the Hawkesbury River, near Sydney. I take inspiration from the natural environment and combine this with explorations into the practice of contemporary felt-making.
The alchemy of the wet-felting process fascinates me. From the same fragile fibres, I am able to transform them into a very lightweight, drapable piece of fabric, or a structurally strong 3D object capable of supporting itself.
I only use natural materials, combining the finest Australian merino and 100% silk to create luxuriously lightweight scarves, suitable for summer and winter, as well as functional and decorative pieces, such as bags, hats, cushions, lamp shades and vessels.
